Other people get their prayers answered. Why can’t I?
I go to Bible studies and I come away happy, but I don’t think I know anything.
My wife wants me to be the spiritual head of the home. How the (blankety-blank) do I do that? The men’s group doesn’t know.
Our church studies books but not the Bible. I already learned that before.
My pastor does things according to denomination rules but we need something else so we don’t stop losing paying members.
God answers sincere question
God loves questions like these. It means you are paying attention and want more of Him in your life even if you state everything as a problem. Man’s problems and God’s solutions are the stuff of all life. And the person who asks God a question gets answers.
Paul is scolding the believers in this passage.
1 Corinthians 3:2 (TLB) I have had to feed you with milk and not with solid food because you couldn’t digest anything stronger.
The King James version uses the terms Milk and Meat. Paul says that babies in Christ are still only consuming milk.
Let us explain. Milk is produced by someone else, that is a mother. She takes in the food and as it is processed in her body, it become available as milk. Babies are unable to consume other kinds of food. It takes no teeth for the baby, and in fact when the child does have teeth, mother is no longer interested in breast-feeding, as well she might!
Teeth means maturity and a need for something to chew on.
After the teeth come in the baby is ready for other kinds of food – in the case of Christians, more advanced information for spiritual maturity. We can now chew. Chewing involves an effort. It allows the child to get different nutrients. Milk is nice but it does not have everything one needs to grow up.
When we mature, we can eat meat, tough stuff to learn and appreciate. In fact the term “Selah” which we find in the Old Testament as been loosely translated as “chew on this.”
The job of the Believer is to get off the milk and get onto a diet of more mature revelation and information. The Bible agrees to provide all that for us; we chew on the Word of God then we move forward with God and fail to progress into more advanced ministry, and effectiveness.
The same idea is found in Hebrews.
Hebrews 5:12 (CJB) For although by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the very first principles of God’s Word all over again! You need milk, not solid food!
I get really annoyed with Christian TV. It appeals to babies. Everything becomes too easy. When we devalue salvation, people do not grow and they remain ineffective for the Kingdom of God.
