People are eternal, so when they hear music or other audio from the past, which remains a part of eternity, they too return to the thoughts and emotions of that time. Brits lived daily with dread of bombing, loss of homes, food and safety, and these songs kept their hope alive.
What Americans were singing at home was also being sung in foxholes. Music creates community and mutual understanding. This is why the movie Casablanca continues to be a favorite worldwide; it verifies every emotion and thought from this same time.
