Symbolism of Moon, Sun, Stars & the Woman in Revelation

I Don’t Wanna Get Adjusted to this World

Moon – Symbol of Satan, without light

The moon, in scripture, is a symbol of the devil, the enemy, etc. The moon reflects light, that is, it has no light of its own. Therefore, it cannot be Jesus for “Jesus is the light of the world” just as “God is light and in him is no darkness at all.” Neither can the moon be the church for she doesn’t simply reflect the light of Christ; she has Christ within her through the new birth. She becomes the light of the world by bringing the gospel everywhere and is admonished not to hide it under a bushel. He also says to be careful that the light within us be not darkness.

Satan as False Light

Satan, on the other hand, makes a pretense of having light. He is an angel of light but it is false. He was once Lucifer, light-bringer, and a star, but fell from heaven; when he did he became totally dark – falling stars burn out – and became the prince of darkness. He is dead just as the moon is a dead planet. He is consigned to earth, feeding on dust, just as the serpent in Genesis must eat dust (Adamic man) all his days. So is the moon, literally a dust bowl, according to astronauts, without life or light of its own.

Reflected LIght

If Jesus (the Sun – SON) didn’t shine on the devil-moon, we wouldn’t even know it was there. In the same way the revelation of the savior comes to people and they say, “I didn’t even know there WAS a devil until I found the Lord.”

The Woman – The Glorified Church

Now see Revelation 12:1. Here is the woman, clothed with the sun. Jesus must be symbolic also of the sun because He is the only light this world has and on the sun ALL plant and sea life depends, as well as ours. Jesus clothes us with his righteousness. On her head The Woman has stars in her crown; stars have their own natural light and they are often used in scripture to signify spiritual leaders. But here’s the important part; under her feet is the moon. Would you put Jesus or his church under anyone’s feet?

Just as the earth is the Lord’s footstool, so the moon is under the feet of the victorious church. He shall put all things under your symbol of final authority. The head of the serpent, in Genesis, will be under the heel of the Seed of the Woman, first Christ, and then the Church too as his agents in this world. Even the blood of the covenant was not allowed underfoot.

Jericho – The Influence of Satan must go Down First

Jericho means “moon city.” It is the first of the citadels in Canaan that must be taken. It represents the influence of the enemy in our life, the authority he has over us. The moon, see Genesis 1:16, has authority, rule over the night. Satan has actually been given authority to rule over the darkness in us. That is why our lives must be cleansed of darkness, and filled with light so there is no darkness over which he can rule in us. This power of darkness and the moon that rules it in us must be broken. The walls of a false salvation must come down.

Study of Symbolism is spiritual education

God has given us the honor of examining his word on the basis of natural truths, in this case, the truth about the relationships of the sun to life and other geologic facts and spiritual truth, as these earthly symbols are used in scripture.

We learn to do this “first in the natural, then in the spiritual, comparing spiritual things to spiritual things.” I Corinthians 2:14, according to Paul.

Have fun searching out matters

Proverbs 25:2 says something important…it is the honor of kings to search out a matter. God would have us examine the words He gives us. It is a privilege and a responsibility of ruling and reigning with him.
