Symbolism – Colors and Their Meaning- Dream Symbolism Basics

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

The Bible contains the meanings of colors and asks us to compare spiritual with spiritual, not spiritual with the natural interpretation. Dreams occur the natural but they have spiritual content.  God wants to speak to us, and how much easier it is for Him when we are asleep.

God used symbolism to tell his story to mankind because from the beginning people could not read. But there were theological lessons everywhere.  The rainbow is the first and foremost of these symbols and it is the major promise of God in history, his promise of good and glorious things for the family of man.

1 Corinthians 2:13 13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teaches, but which the Holy Ghost teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

The meaning of colors is based on the rainbow. It signifies God’s promise to all mankind, not just Christians and Jews.rainbow2

The colors are in order: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and finally violet, or purple. They form naturally in the sky. It is a picture of the path to the Kingdom of God which is the Christian goal and the ultimate goal for all mankind as well. We pray this:

Matthew 6:10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

To enter the Kingdom you begin with red, which stands for the blood sacrifice of Jesus. No one comes into the presence of the Father without having recognized the blood covenant and its purposes. Red also means STOP, and a warning.

Next is orange which is for deliverance from evil forces including demons and curses. A good bit of ignorance surrounds this in today’s churches leaving them to fight against evil without proper information and the results are sad.

After one has dealt with the devil you come to yellow which stands for holiness. It may seem superfluous to say this, but one can hardly expect to make any progress in the life of the Kingdom without having genuine holiness. There is a form of Godliness which has no power. Pity. Holiness to God is not the option of stopping some behavior, like saying I won’t ever drink alcohol. That is what we often assume from church membership.

Holiness involves a change of heart and attitude. There is a place in life where the option to sin does not actually occur to you. Temptations come and go; that is life, but the inward nature changes and we are to become like Christ, committed to a life of obedience without having to strain over our decisions.

2 Timothy 3:4-6 (KJV) 4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

After yellow comes green meaning information, and growth. Many national companies use green for health, harvest, and information, with little green leaves on fruit. Before you can have faith in God, which comes next, you need the Bible which contains the information you need.

Blue symbolizes faith. Without faith it is impossible to go on. Yes, everyone has a measure of faith which is provided to him/her but beyond this faith must be exercised at every single level if one wishes to progress in holy things. Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that comes to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Romans 12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

I’ve heard Bible teachers and members of congregations say “I do not believe this or that in the Bible” and guess what? They don’t, so move on. There is not much reason to sit under their teaching. (Don’t confuse activity with progress. The devil can keep you busy for many years.) So learning is a major part of life; make it your goal to learn to believe God every day.

After blue comes indigo. Some people call this lavender, or even shocking pink. It stands for spiritual warfare. Being a warrior for God comes after you have been through the previous processes, otherwise the devil tears your tail off. Spiritual Warfare brings a victory and after that comes the crown.

All ancient kings wore purple since purple dye was wildly expensive and only they could afford it. It comes from the crushing of a tiny little sea “worm” which produced the color. So now perhaps we can understand when the Palmist said, I am a worm and no man.

Psalm 22:6 But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people.

Jesus was crushed for us all and now wears purple in heaven as King.

You will rule and reign with Christ here on earth if this process is yours. At this point the rainbow is a finished product. Your life has reached its goal.

Now for the devil’s counterfeits.  Blue = depression, red=rage or anger, green=greed, or envy, yellow=cowardly and fearful black=black arts or voodoo, white=nothingness, pink=homosexuality or sex perversion. But for orange? deliverance?  There is NO false deliverance!

I once had a dream about blue and white stripes painted on the walls of my home. The painter’s name was Tammy, which means purity, and white stands for holiness and blue for faith. That was my message, to paint my life on the inside in those colors and to live by faith. Tamar in the Bible is also the name of the date Palm tree, a symbol of praise and purity. What made the dream memorable was also the fact that blue is my favorite color.

Please write down the dream as soon as you possibly can. Many details will be lost if you don’t.
