Three hundred and sixty times in the King James Bible we are told “Fear not.” So we conclude that fear is a natural, endemic emotion in Christians which God does not want for his people, or for anyone else either.

Fear is a reaction to a perceived threat. Here is a partial list of threats.

  • Fear of New revelation, ideas, processes, people
  • Fear of being wrong
  • Fear of a change of status, either up or down
  • Fear of not knowing how to avoid something
  • Fear of new ideas
  • Fear of exposure
  • Fear of the rejection of friends
  • Fear of loss of finances
  • Fear of change of any kind
  • Fear of losing my job, my position, my self-esteem
  • Fear of failing God

Plus 354 more.

My mother, who was not a Christian, taught me as a small child to stand against fear. It was my enemy meant to control me. I thank God for this teaching for I have seen so many people unhappy because they cannot control their fears.

The opposite of fear is faith

Faith believes what God said. Faith in God is your stance against fears coming against you.

Mark 4:40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?

Your faith gets results.

Matthew 9:29 Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you.

Faith grows gradually like money in the bank of your heart drawing increased interest for you as you believe day by day.

Romans 1:17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

Finally Hebrews 11, the faith chapter. Faith pleases God and when He is pleased you will be too, and He blesses those who please him.

Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

If you have trouble believing, read the Bible aloud to yourself, especially the gospels and the Psalms and as you hear the words, your faith increases.

Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Someone else’s unbelief and denial of God and His power has no effect on God so do not let it affect you.

Romans 3:3 For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect?
