An example of spiritual warfare

First, it is not groupies chasing after a rock star. That is just foolish people looking for meaning in life. A cult is a doctrine that is worshipped to the exclusion of a real god.

This past month, after my friend Ginger and her husband had a pleasant breakfast, he became ill, they rushed him to a hospital and by lunchtime he was had a dangerous full blown case of Covid. In a few days they gave him a 40% chance of survival. Her church family started praying, even had a special service for him, but the real war was Ginger’s.

Her husband’s family did not believe in blood transfusions, and since she had allowed that to happen she was fighting off the accusations and invectives of her inlaws. At the end of the week, they pronounced him 100% fine and he would be home soon.

Belief supersedes rational thinking

This is a cult – A Belief that supersedes any other kind of argument. If their son died apparently that was not the issue – only the doctrine was important. If we feared madmen doctors, running about like Dr. Mengele killing people right and left with various methods of torture, blood transfusions among them, we might think of this twice, but the modern medical profession, with only a few exceptions, is interested in improving health not killing patients. Medical education is expensive and that is what they are taught. But rational thinking is not an element of cultish thinking or behavior.

Be careful of what you think. Jesus advised “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” If you straighten out your heat you can adjust your thinking and not become deceived by foolish, untested arguments.

This kind of thinking is why Jesus asked the rich young ruler what does God ask us to do?

Luke 10:27 He responded, “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your being, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and love your neighbor as yourself.”
