Look this up in a dictionary but you’d still not know the heart of God. There are over 500 verses regarding God’s Law and all of them are positive statements because to obey the law of God is to be blessed. These contain great rewards. But we must pick one for a description.
Psalm 19:7 The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul:
In no way does God need law for Himself. Law is for you and the rest of the human race, to convert the soul This is not about your spirit which has a built in godly nature, even if you do not perceive its presence. But the soul you know.
Three-part Soul
The soul is made up of three parts – mind, emotion, and will. The most important of these is your will. When your will is in line with God’s will then you begin to move forward. That submission to the perfect will of God constitutes the life of a believer. Jesus said, “I come to do thy will.” and Jesus is the perfect person, what the book of Hebrews calls the “pattern” son – the way we all should live, that is, act and react.
In the book of Acts they started calling the Jesus-people “Christians” or “little messiahs.” Do you feel like a baby Messiah? Probably not.
But because we are sinners from the git-go God adds Mercy. Mercy or the love of God in action is greater than the law. The law is set in stone as it were, but the scripture says:
Lamentations 3: 22 It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
The morning rules
The law is not new every morning. It is set and spoken and over. But you (and I) need a new flood of mercy. Interestingly enough, God tells us He will meet us in the morning. Most Bible teachers tell you to study your Bible first thing. I did this for many, many years.
Psalm 143:8 Cause me to hear thy loving kindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.
Mercy is the love of God in action. These promises belong to you.
